Continuous Arrival of Mega Container Ships and Unprecedented Performance at Damietta Container Terminal

Continuing its success in welcoming mega ships and achieving unprecedented performance, DCHC (Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Co.) successfully received the massive container ship (ZEUS LUMOS), operated by the Japanese shipping line Ocean Network Express (ONE), one of the world’s largest container shipping operators and a key client of the terminal. The ship berthed at Container Berths (1-2), arriving from Singapore and heading to the Port of Barcelona in Spain, flying the Liberian flag. Damietta Container Terminal implemented a meticulous plan for the ship's operations, completing unloading and loading activities with a total of 4,123 containers, maintaining high efficiency and global performance standards, achieving a productivity rate of the ship (79 containers per hour). Notably, ZEUS LUMOS is one of the newest mega container ships in ONE's fleet, built in 2021, measuring 366 meters in length, 51 meters in width, and with a draft of 15 meters, operating within the MD1 service. Admiral Dr. Rafik Galal - Executive Managing Director of DCHC (Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Co.), stated that ZEUS LUMOS is one of the mega container ships regularly calling at Damietta Container Terminal due to the berth depth and advanced operational capabilities, along with the latest STS gantry cranes that recently entered service. This demonstrates the terminal's capacity to handle this class of mega container ships skillfully and professionally, reflecting the trust that global shipping lines place in the terminal. The ongoing development efforts aim to position it as a primary hub for transit trade in the Mediterranean. The Executive Managing Director affirmed that Damietta Container Terminal is committed to major investments to ensure the provision of outstanding services to its clients, including global shipping lines and Egyptian exporters and importers. He also expressed gratitude to all company employees for their dedicated efforts and commitment, which contribute to elevating the company's status, supporting the Egyptian economy, and realizing the vision of the political leadership and the Ministry of Transport's strategy to make Egypt a regional and global hub for logistics, maritime transport, and transit trade.
